Metafolin is the only folate that penetrates the blood-brain barrier. Chemically, metafolin is a stable calcium salt of L-5-methyltetra-hydrofolic acid, L-5-MTHF. Matafolin does not mask a possible deficiency of vitamin B12 in the diet.
