Cooper’s paraffin oil is a natural remedy for constipation.
How does paraffin oil help with constipation?
Unlike other edible oils, paraffin oil does not pass through the lining of the digestive tract. When ingested, it lines the lining of the colon and rectum and then acts as a lubricant to help pass stool. It also has the property of softening feces, which are thus easier to evacuate. Its mechanism of action is mechanical and also makes defecation less painful, for example, in the case of anal fissure.
Adults: 15 to 45 ml or 1 to 3 tablespoons orally per day.
Children over 6 years of age: orally: 10–15 ml, i.e. 2–3 teaspoons per day.
It is preferable to take it away from food. When taken in the evening, it is recommended not to go to bed for 2 hours after administration (see section “Warnings, precautions for use”) and take into account the duration of action (6-8 hours).
