Le Beau Eau de Parfum by Jean Paul Gaultier is the male counterpart of La Belle Eau de Parfum. Like the women’s fragrance, Le Beau is the result of a creative collaboration between perfumers Quentin Biche and Sonia Constant. However, these two scents are completely different in terms of aromatic focus and popularity. La Belle consists of a layered array of shades that create an overall sweet and fruity concept. Le Beau, on the other hand, sticks to a very minimalist ingredient list, with one twist at each level of the pyramid. The aroma coming from this reduced pyramid is also quite one-dimensional and very sweet and synthetic.
Lots of coconut
You don’t have to have anything against synthetic fragrances to appreciate Le Beau. Preferring coconut is another must. Coconut is a very important characteristic of a perfume – and although the theoretical shade list lists coconut wood, the orientation of this tropical fruity scent seems to be sweet and sticky rather than dry and woody. Bergamot in the top note brings a bit of tart freshness, but at the same time sharpness, and tonka bean adds a vanilla-gourmand background typical of the brand.
