Iron is a vital, essential component of the blood pigment hemoglobin, which we need for the transport of oxygen in our body by red blood cells. Iron deficiency therefore usually leads to so-called anemia, which can manifest itself, for example, with paleness, tiredness, difficulty concentrating and loss of appetite.
Since our body cannot produce iron itself, we rely on an outside supply. We have an increased need for iron, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but also during growth.
