field of use
• The drug is a chewable tablet that contains calcium and vitamin D 3 – two important substances for bone formation.
• The drug is taken:
• for the prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency in the elderly
• as an adjunct to support specific osteoporosis therapy in patients at risk of vitamin D and calcium deficiency.
Contraindications
• The drug must not be taken
• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to calcium, vitamin D or any of the other ingredients
• if you have too much calcium in your blood or urine
• if you have calcium-containing kidney stones
• if your kidneys are not working properly
• if you have too much vitamin D in your blood.
dosage
• Always take the medicine exactly as directed. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The usual dose is one tablet twice a day.
• If you take more than you should
• If you may have taken more of the medicine than you should, talk to your doctor or pharmacist straight away.
• Symptoms of hypercalcaemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, lightheadedness and confusion, extreme thirst, excessive or abnormal urine production and/or frequent urination, and bone pain.
• If you forget to take a dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

• if you are on long-term treatment
• if you have impaired kidney function or a strong tendency to form kidney stones
• if you suffer from sarcoidosis (an immune system disease which can lead to increased levels of vitamin D in the body)
• if immobilized with osteoporosis (osteoporosis caused by prolonged immobilization)
• if you are taking other vitamin D or calcium supplements. Additional doses of calcium and vitamin D can significantly increase blood calcium levels and cause harmful side effects. Such preparations may only be taken together under strict medical supervision
• if you suffer from phenylketonuria.
• It is at the discretion of your doctor whether a calcium and/or vitamin D 3 supplement can be used under these circumstances.
• If you use the medicine without a doctor’s prescription, you should always consult your doctor if you use it for more than a month.
• If you are using the medicine for osteoporosis, it is recommended that you have your blood calcium levels (calcaemia) checked before you start treatment.
• In the case of long-term treatment, the calcium level in the blood must be checked regularly.
• Depending on the result, your doctor may decide to lower the dose or stop treatment.
• The medicine is not intended for use in children and adolescents.
• Driving and using machines
• No studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been performed. However, an adverse effect is unlikely.
pregnancy
• Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
• During pregnancy, the daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg of calcium and 600 IU of vitamin D, as overdoses can have harmful effects on the unborn child. If you have a calcium and vitamin D deficiency,
you can also use the medicine during pregnancy.
• If you are breastfeeding, you can also use the medicine. However, if your child receives additional doses of vitamin D, it must be taken into account that the active substances contained in Calcilac pass into breast milk.
